Goodwood Revival Meeting 2014 | 2. The atmosphere

Putting aside the racing aspect, Goodwood was again that amazing journey to the past which only the indisputable pionner of revival festivals is capable of. The 'Over the Road' area comprised a Fairground with a slide tower and a classic carousel, shops, pubs, even period hairdresser's. A 'Best-dressed' contest (some featuring exquisite grandparents' garments) and live music spectacles for dancing and shining could also be found. The event enhanced its usual air show with the 75 anniversary of the Goodwood aerodrome transfer to the RAF in the Second World War. Two Lancaster bombers and four fighters (Spitfires and Hurricanes) joined many military vehicles, air cadets, volunteers and real veterans down in the airfield. All in period military dress, of course.

Eventually Goodwood, with nearly 150,000 guests in 2014, have proved to be not only an exceptional classic car event but an benchmark entertainment model which, with the circuit as epicentre, attracks a wider audience thanks to the revival movement.
